Have we let the recession curb our love of eating out?
We still appear to be in the recession with eating out being less popular and hotel booking down, but in Wales people still appear to want to eat out, and enjoy the process, so long as the quality remains high. A subtle is there between quality and the cost of something.
Luxury hotels Wales or upmarket restaurants both share the same commitment to quality, which has more to do with their inherent sense of style and purpose than any notions of luxury. A modest B&B can still offer excellent quality, especially when it comes to food and service.
Although dark ecomonic skies still dominate, it is true that there is evidence of light starting to shine through. People who love eating good quality food as part of their holidays in Wales still appreciate those whose passion is sourcing, preparing and serving it. Many restaurants have built their reputation on emphasising the importance of a highly personalised service and sticking to what they are good at.
The country has always been known as a centre of excellency in food and drink and fine restaurants that show great attention to detail and an environmentally aware method of sourcing local products and services. Better quality of food and drink, and importantly the service, are all the hallmarks of the way the Welsh conduct their eating establishments. A commitment to sustainability can go by the wayside when profits are under pressure, but many restaurants in Wales see these recessionary times as an opportunity to put pressure on suppliers to match their ethical position. Times may be tough, but the message seems to be clear for the restaurant trade at least. Delivering quality at a fair price remains the key to attracting customers who’ll continue to regard eating out as one of the best things to do in Wales.
