Dogs and their toys – Why are they needed?
Dogs are pack oriented. In the wild the pack sleeps, hunts, eats and plays together. Rarely would a dog spend time alone. A lot have changed in the life of dogs since they were domesticated. Dogs have become a part of the human family. Dogs have become pampered and well cared for pets. Dogs are a popular choice for a pet but they are rarely kepts in packs. Owners have to replicate the activities dogs are accustomed to when they are still living with the pack one of which is providing the pet with toys. Children love toys. Dogs are not kids. Why then do they need toys?
Bonding time with owners
Dogs are loving and caring animals. These pets provide the family with loads of happy moments. Play time is a great way for the dog and the family to bond. Dogs like to play with frisbees and catch balls with the children.
Exercise
Dogs have a requirement for exercise. Exercise is needed to keep to dog fit and to ensure that the dog develops well functioning vital organs. In their natural environment, dogs have all the opportunities to run, play and be social. Walking is a dog thing. This is why good dog owners make sure that their dogs get plenty of exercise. Throw and activity toys would be a good replacement if it is not possible to take the dog walking.
Home alone
Many dogs have to stay home alone all day. Boredom is oftentimes the result of this situation. Dogs like to be around others. They need to interact with the pack, their master and with other animals. As we know. Bored dogs can easily become destructive dogs. Giving the dog toys keeps them busy and prevents destructive behaviour. Providing the dog with toys prevents the development of destructive behavior.
Dog’s toys
Dogs like to chew. Teething pups often chew to soothe the pain from teething. Although chewing builds the muscles in the jaws and prevents the development of teeth and gum problems, a dog’s purpose for chewing is to ease boredom. Provide the dog with chew toys but be sure that these toys are large enough not to be swallowed by the dog. Activity toys like balls, frisbees and other fetch oys not only keep the dog in shape but also stimulates the dogs mind. Toys can be used as rewards and positive reinforcements when training the dog. Toys with concealed treats for example Kong toys will be associated by the dog to the performance of a command.
