Increase In Oil Prices At The Highest For Ten Years

Jan 31, 2010

The cold snap in Britain and other parts of the world has led to an increase in the price of crude oil. There are forecasts for more cold weather in the United States which has led to further increases in the cost of a barrel of oil. Prices of a barrel of crude oil is at a five week high and is now nearly hitting eighty dollars a barrel.

Crude oil reserves are decreasing because of the high demand for oil which comes with the cold weather. Because of this, prices of a barrel of oil are expected to go beyond the eighty dollar mark before too long.

However, the good news to this is that the United States economy seems to be showing some signs of recovery with the increased demand for oil. There is a sign that consumer confidence is beginning to grow and that the global economy has reached the bottom and is on the way back up again.

A 78% price increase in the oil industry is the biggest increase in a decade. Not since 1999 when prices rose by 112% has the oil industry seen such an increase. Some of the reasons for the increase in prices were the weakness of the dollar and the reduction of crude oil reserves. Experts are predicting that oil prices will rise even further in 2010 with forecasts of up to ninety five dollars per barrel. Demand for oil will rise if the economy in the United States continues its upward trend and if businesses begin to recover and this will all help to push the prices of oil up even further.

Another factor which could affect the prices of oil is the fact that there are continued conflicts in some oil producing countries. If anything were to interrupt the supply of oil from these countries, the prices of oil could rise quite sharply.

Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of heating oil to ensure they never run out.
