Tips For Selling Your Used Car

Jan 15, 2010

If you have an old car that you want to replace, you could take it to the car dealers and trade it in against the price of the new car or you could try to sell it privately. You will more than likely get more money if you sell it yourself but it will involve some preparation work on your side.

You will need to get any paperwork together that relates to the car. If you have any service records, warranties etc, you should have these within easy reach as many potential buyers will want to see them. Giving the car a good clean is the next thing that should be done. Any items you have in the car which don’t need to be there should be removed. Pick up any bits of rubbish and give the car a vacuum. You should then wash the car and wax it as well as buffing up the tyres. You can then take some photos of both the interior and the exterior of the car for when you decide to advertise.

If you can afford to, you could try to repair anything that needs doing so as not to give buyers any ammunition for haggling for a lower price. Buyers also like to see the vehicle history report so it might be worthwhile spending a bit of money to get this done.

You will need to decide on the price you want for the car when it is ready for sale. Looking online can give you an idea of how much similar cars are being sold for. That way you won’t be asking too much or too little for your car.

Once you have got your price it is time to write an ad and list it on a website. To get more interested parties, you should always emphasise the positive aspects of your car.

When you think it’s time to look out for used cars, you may end up much better off by thoroughly researching the cars that interest you. This reserach will let you find the best cars available for each category you look at. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used vauxhall vectra or even a used vauxhall zafira.
