Broadband speed tests are a way of finding out if your internet speeds match the speeds advertised by your internet service provider. The only way of doing this is by sending and receiving packets of data to and from a server that is accessible on the World Wide Web. There are many internet web sites that offer reliable broadband speed tests for users to check their data transfer speeds with servers in different parts of the world. There is also software that has been developed to do the same thing, though web sites are much more popular. Follow the below steps to carry out a broadband speed test:
-Access the test application. You can use either pre-loaded software on your computer or one of the many popular internet websites that can test your broadband connection speed.
-There are some websites and applications in which you can specify which country you would like the test to be carried out with, though other applications only have one default server with which to test.
-The first step of the test is to determine your connection latency. This is the length of time it takes for the server you are testing with to receive packets from your computer. The latency, or ping, could range from 20ms for a good connection, up to 1000ms and over for a very bad connection. Generally, countries with well established internet infrastructure will average around 30 to 100ms, and developing countries may range from 50ms up to 350ms. In some areas of the world with poor infrastructure, latency could easily be above 800ms.
-The next stage will be a download speed test. Your computer will then attempt to receive packets of data sent by the broadband speed test applications server. The speed at which the packets are received by your computer will determine your internet download speed.
-The next test will be an upload test. Data packets will then be sent from your computer, up to the server. The speed at which they are received will ascertain your data upload capacity.
-The maximum speeds for uploads and downloads will be taken from the highest speed at which the data was transferred from and to your computer.
It is important to recognize that the highest attainable speed will generally be with a server located in your country of residence. Distance obviously has an affect, though less so as technology improves.
When picking a broadband provider we want to choose somebody that is going to provide a quality service that you can depend on. These days many of us spend a lot of time online and we depend on the internet as a source for much of our entertainment. Our broadband service really must be something that we can depend on to ensure we continue to enjoy the internet. The following tips will ensure that we are able to choose a top quality broadband provider.
- It might be a good idea to choose one of the bigger names when it comes to broadband providers. You may have to pay a little bit extra for getting a good name but at least you will be sure of getting a good service. The thing about a business that is well known already is that it has more to lose if they provide a bad service. The smaller business will find it a lot easier to provide a bad broadband service than a bigger company.
- Customer service is something that should factor high on your list of priorities when it comes to choosing a broadband provider. Making sure that it will be there if you should need it is a good idea. If you find that the company are slow to respond to you when you contact them for information, then this is a good indication of how they will respond to any problems you might have when you sign up with them.
- Check out the website of the broadband provider to ensure that it looks professional as well as impressive. This is not just being fussy, but if the provider isn’t savvy enough to put together a nice website they shouldn’t really be dealing with the internet.
- Ask for recommendations from people you known but be wary of reviews that you read on the internet. You will always get better advice from people you know. A lot of the glowing reviews that you see on the internet are actually written by the companies they are promoting so should be viewed with a pinch of salt; it would actually be stranger if these companies were not doing this.
As far as huge corporations are concerned, everybody must know about virgin. That massive company founded by the great richard branson. There are lots of arms of this massive brand, including music reviews.
