Water in a garden is always a great feature and a fish pond adds a new dimension, allowing you and your family and friends to enjoy watching, feeding and caring for your fish. You can enjoy the charm of the fish pond for many years especially if it’s combined with a water fountain or waterfall.

It takes considerable planning to build a pond. Your first task would include the type of fish you can keep in a fish pond and the type of light they thrive in. It may be too cold and dark to have a pond under the trees and harming or even killing the fish are falling leaves. Once you know what the fish will need, you can go about choosing a location for your pond.

Your fish pond should not be at the lowest point of your garden, as you do not want it overflowing in heavy rain, or filling up with soil. Placing the pond under a deciduous tree that regularly loses its leaves or one that produces fruit and berries is a bad idea as well. The location must fit with the layout of your garden and is not intrusive. If you have children, you have to keep it out of the way of their usual play area and you may also want to consider fencing the pond in.

Fish ponds can be many shapes and sizes. Suiting the scale of your garden should be the size you choose which means if you have a large garden, then your pond should be big enough to become a feature but with a small garden, a large pond will dominate and be overwhelming. Direct sunlight is needed by most fish ponds in order for the plants and fish to be kept healthy.

Many large nurseries and garden stores sell DIY kits for fish ponds, as well as the plants you can add to the pond. Some will even sell fish and food as well. The species of fish and the quantity you want to buy will depend on the size of your pond.

You will need to take care of the fish and their habitat once it’s been installed. Feeding them, protecting them from predators like cats and birds, and keeping the pond free of debris are some of the things you will have to do. A net over the pond will keep your fish safe and prevent children from falling into the pond. Helping to filter and clean pond water are the plants you place in and around your pond and this will also increase the attractiveness of the garden feature. Near the pond, place a garden bench so you’ll have a comfortable seat to enjoy the tranquility and peace.

If you’re looking into breeding your own tropical fish, there are a few tips you should keep in mind before diving into this opportunity. First of all you must determine what type of tropical fish you would like to breed.

You can choose among many different breeds, so do some research before you decide. If you’ve never bred fish before, it might be best for you to breed live bearing fish. This type of fish doesn’t lay eggs, but rather gives birth to live young.

It’s much easier to take care of live babies than eggs. If you go with the live bearing fish, make sure you house the breeding fish separately, to avoid the babies from getting eaten. The mother can go back to the main tank after she gives birth.

Do some extensive research on the type of fish you select. Since every type of fish requires different care, it is best to find out as much as you can before you even start.

It is very important for you to know the right temperature you need to maintain in your tank. This is crucial to the safety of the fish you’re breeding. Tank size is another important factor.

Even if they don’t need a huge tank right now, it will need to be big enough for your fish as it grows. They will remain in this tank for quite some time, until they are old enough to be moved into the main tank.

Finding the right place for your tank is also very important. Placing the tank in a place that is not adequate is probably the worst mistake a new breeder can make. Don’t place the tanks near windows where the sun shines in.

Sunlight promotes the growth of algae. You also don’t want the tank water to get warmer than the recommended temperature for the fish you’re breeding.

Provide plenty of foliage for the fish to take cover in. It is important to create an environment as close as their natural environment as you can, so it is best if you research what type of foliage you should use.

The Aquarium lights should not be on for too long. 8-12 hours each day is the maximum amount of time they should be on. Make sure the type of foliage you selected tolerates the lighting.

If you don’t have people to give your fish to when they start to get bigger, you may need to buy more tanks. If that’s not a possibility, then make sure you keep males and females separate to avoid overbreeding.

Breeding tropical fish is not a hard thing to do, but it is important to learn as much as you can before you start. Consult professional breeders for tips as well as reading everything you can get your hands on to become an expert right off the bat.

When you think of raising sharks in a home aquarium, do you think of the movie Jaws? Well, people keep sharks as pets, but they’re not like the shark we see in horror movies.

There are several smaller varieties of sharks that are more suitable for home aquariums. Some of the most popular sharks found in home aquariums are Epaulettes and Bamboo sharks.

These sharks can grow to be about 3-4 feet in length. Another popular choice is the Bullhead shark which is considered attractive because of the ridges over its head. If you plan to get a shark as a pet, you need to keep a few things in mind.

Your tank should be big enough Sharks require very large tanks, which usually don’t come cheap. You will need a 240-260 tank for just a single shark. The tank must also be long, since sharks cannot survive in small tanks.

The tank is going to be heavy Make sure you don’t overlook this factor, since these tanks can get quite heavy, almost as much as a pickup truck. Placing the tank within your home will be important. You won’t be able to have it upstairs, since the floor won’t be able to hold the weight of the tank. You’ll need to find a sturdy concrete floor that’s several inches thick to hold the weight of the tank.

3) Cost of care of your shark Having sharks as pet is not something you just jump into. Sharks and the tanks you will need are very costly. Then there’s the filters and equipment needed for the tank, as well as the food you’ll need to feed the sharks. Make sure you budget in the cost of another tank, in the event that the one you have is not big enough for the adult shark.

Be aware of your responsibilities before taking them on – Caring for a shark is not an easy task. You must keep the tank very clean and feed your shark at least three times a day. You need to do a lot of research before you bring any shark home.

People who own sharks love taking care of them, but theirs is a serious commitment. Don’t assume that taking care of sharks is as easy as caring for a cat or a dog. A small overcrowded aquarium is not the answer for your shark to thrive.

Make sure you have plenty of money saved and enough knowledge in your corner if you are really thinking of getting a shark. Sharks must be treated with the respect they deserve, and never suffer because their owner didn’t do enough research.

There are many reasons to consider getting a pet and many reasons not to. When discussing the feasibility of fish at pets, they can be great for many reasons that are reasons not to get other pets.

Fish don’t make any noise. They don’t yap at the gate for hours on end, or chirp and squawk, or make that weird wailing noise when other cats come into their yard in the middle of the night.

Fish don’t leave poop lying around for you to pick up in the yard, litter box or around the house. All you need to do to clean up after a fish is to clean their bowls or fish tanks every month or so, and you don’t need to give them all sorts of housebreaking training to make them leave their waste in a litter box.

Fish don’t shed and if they do, they live with it, not you. They aren’t like your usual pets who cover your rugs, carpets and couches with animal hair, clog your vacuum cleaner or shed on your brand new suit. A fish doesn’t know what a hairball is, or how to make one. They don’t jump up and leave paw marks on your new shirt, and they won’t shred the couch or the curtains.

Fish won’t eat you out of house and home and they won’t steal the food off your plate either. They don’t need water, or shade, or brushing and bathing. They don’t have to be played with or exercised, and you can pretty much ignore them for days on end. They won’t do any harm to your lawn, to your plants, or your car tires either.

Loud noises don’t mean a thing to fishes. You can go out on New Year’s Eve and not have to sedate them first, or worry about the state of the house or the fish when you get back in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

You can talk to fish and they don’t talk back. They are company for you, just not very demanding company. You can have simple amusement just by watching your fishes swim, and again, they don’t need much maintenance. And you don’t need to open any cans or clean any bowls of food – all you need to do is sprinkle a few flakes of fish food twice a day to keep your fish from going hungry.

Unfortunately, fish aren’t too receptive – if they are receptive at all – to your presence. They won’t sleep next to you when it gets too cold and give you much-needed warmth. You won’t be able to play with them unless you consider tapping on the aquarium glass as playtime. They won’t lick the tears off your cheeks when you’re sad, or comfort you when you’re ill. Most aquarium owners can live with this or have other pets to fill the roles fishes can’t play, so if you feel the same way, then fishes are just the pets for your needs.

Fish Care For Newbies

Sep 17, 2010

A lot of people out there seem to think that looking after fish is actually something that is very easy to do well this is simply not true at all and there are so many things you must look into when it comes to getting your very first tropical tank or marine fish tank here are some tips on making a success of everything!

Bigger is not always better but if you have the money I would look into getting something like a 90 litre tank because small tanks are not actually the most ideal thing for a beginner and this is because it is easier to have stable temperature and water chemistry in a larger tank. You also need to make sure you have the space when it comes to a large tank like this one. you need to make sure you discuss with this your family and do not go out and just buy one!

when it comes to things like filter sponges you need to make sure you are not actually washing them in the tap water because good bacteria will be washed away.

you also need to make sure that you are not feeding your fish all of the time because too much food is never good for them. when it comes to feeding you need to make sure you put a bit in first then a bit more, only twice a day at the maximum!!

Try not to put new fish in with the old fish straight away, always use something known as a quarantine tank because this will get them used to the water and the old fish used to the new fish!

If you are following these tips and you have the right aquarium supplies then there is no reason at all why you cannot make a success out of your new fish tank!

A lot of people buy pets all of the time that they do not have time to care for and this is classed as not being able to treat them in the right way. this can actually end you up in trouble and can cause a lot of problems, you need to make sure you have the time. here is a bit of advice on whether or not you really have the time for this.

Do You Work A Lot??

If you are someone that is working all day every day then you will find it very hard to keep animals such as dogs because of the fact that they need time and attention. something that is very unfair is leaving an animal by themselves for long periods of time, they do not like it. If you are one of these kinds of people and you still want a pet then maybe it is worth locking into a nocturnal pet or fish. Bear in mind then with fish you are going to need things like a tropical fish tank as well as aquarium lighting. Things like this can come to be quite pricey especially the fish tanks but in the end they are worth it because they make great pets.

Social Events

if you like the night out and come back a bit worse for wear a lot of the time then it is not fair to have a pet in the house, they do not like this kind of thing. they can easily be frightened by something like this. something that you should also never do is start shouting at them or constantly arguing in the home because it is not fair.

If you really do not think you are going to have time to look after a pet then the thing to do is just not to bother with it.

When it comes to buying a new aquarium you need to make sure you put it in the right location. if you do not actually make the right location possible for your tank then you will find it will suffer, the fish are going to suffer too.

The Fish

The main concern that you should have with a new tropical fish tank or marine aquarium is the fish as they are the ones that could easily perish if you put the tank in a location that just wouldn’t work well for them. continue reading »
