It’s pretty hard to deny the effect that Star Wars had on movies – it changed things forever. The once epic vision of George Lucas, which has sadly faded over the years, raised the standards expected from movies from that point onwards – every movie made after Star Wars tried to measure up to it. Prior to Star Wars – A New Hope science fiction movies were often B-grade material at best and the special effects used were anything but believable.
Around the same time that Star Wars was due 20th Century Fox’s other big movie for that year was a nuclear apocalypse movie called Damnation Alley. But when you compared the special effects, script and just the overall movie to the original Star Wars it’s hard to understand or believe where 20th Century Fox spent $17 million dollars – Star Wars looks like it cost about $170 million in comparison. There were various reasons for Damnation Alley looking so bad in comparison and most of the damage was done post-production – ain’t that always the way?
But back to Star Wars before I totally wander off the subject. It’s hard to think of another movie in cinema history that has had such a profound and long lasting effect on movie making. Even look at the merchandising that followed the release of the movies – it took this part of movie promotion and company profits to a whole new level.
And one of the largest marketing hits were the lightsabers that hit the market to fill the demand from children everywhere for his or her own replica lightsaber. The original efforts were pretty weak but after a lot of testing and remodelling Master Replicas finally got it right when they produced the Force FX lightsabers and the cut-rate knock-offs died a rapid death.
But what made the lightsaber such a popular toy? After all there were plenty of other Star Wars toys to pick from. The lightsaber was different because it reminded us of stories of the knights of the round table and heroic deeds done by knights. You’ll even notice that George Lucas created Jedi Knights and not just plain old Jedi. The boring old sword got a whole new lease of life as a movie weapon after the lightsaber came on the scene.
The coolness factor of the lightsaber and what set it apart from any other sci-fi weapon we’d seen before was that by using the Force the lightsaber became an extension of you – you and the weapon become as one; which of course has leanings towards the legends surrounding Samurai warriors. To use a lightsaber proficiently it took years of training and to be a true master you had to be born into the ways of the Force.
There’s been no weapon since, in any sci-fi movie that I can think of, that has come close to the lightsaber in terms of producing sheer awe in an audience.

Many people, myself included have a ton of electronic devices just lying around in their homes. A lot of these gadgets will be just lying around gathering dust because they actually haven’t been used in quite a while. So what can you do with all these devices that you no longer use?
If you want to know what to do with these old electronic devices when you don’t use them anymore, the tips below should help.
- Try to sell them on eBay. Selling old devices to a second hand shop might not make much money for you but you may be able to make more money if you sell them online. You are cutting out the middleman when you sell your items online; you need to remember that a second hand shop will want to make a profit from your items. You may find that you make a good bit of money selling your old unwanted items because it may be the case that these are items that someone else has been looking for.
- You may have your own website and if so then you could try selling it there or you could do a raffle and have that as the prize. This could be the perfect way for you to get more visitors to your site and to make some extra money at the same time.
- You could try the old fashioned method and sell your items locally by putting up some posters. You can make good money in a private sale but it can take a bit of time to get results still, if you are in no rush then this could be a good choice.
- Why not give your old devices to charity. This can be a great idea because it brings a lot of happiness to people who otherwise would not be able to afford such luxuries. When you give something to other people it actually makes you feel good about yourself if you believe in karma then you will also have that to look forward to as well.

TVS

The most popular LCD TVs are still generally the 32 inch sets by household brands like Sony, Samsung and Toshiba. You could find them at most of the major retails for a brilliant price of around £250 and come along with some really great features.
Tablet computers
There was a big challenge for manufacturers this year as tablet computers certainly put big names in a fierce competition. After Apple introduced the iPad, many other companies came with their own tablets. Samsung Galaxy Tab which was recently launched is gaining more and more popularity . If you are wondering whether it is a worthy £400+ treat, to help you decide check out this iPad review.
Cameras

In this increasingly digital world, USB fuelled gadgets are becoming very popular. Amongst the endless selection of novelty USB gifts available (including a USB humping dog, USB colour-changing chameleon and USB ‘Whack-a-Mole’) there are also a number that to me, look really useful and should make wicked presents this Christmas.
The first of these useful gadgets is the USB cup warmer, which I plan to purchase for my father. This gift is ideal for anyone like him who makes themselves a brew, sits down at their desk and forgets about their beverage until it is too cold to enjoy. The installation-free hot plate will keep your cuppa hot for up to an extra thirty minutes brilliant!
One more of my Christmas gift ideas is to get my mother a pair of pink and fluffy USB heated slippers. This gift is ideal since she loves to spend hours browsing eBay listings in the evenings but the family PC is located in our (currently very cold) conservatory and her feet receive quite a chill.
Continuing the USB gift theme, I also plan to get my brother a biology student at university a USB microscope. He has been saying for a long time that he needs a smaller and more mobile one than his usual ’scope and this should be ideal. I also plan to buy a retro looking USB powered lamp for my older sister who has been complaining recently about a lack of light in her room, since it is winter and her room is on the basement level of our house. Using her computer to check her Facebook account should become even more of a love of hers!
Not sure I’ll be able to completely avoid the novelty USB stocking fillers though I am quite keen on getting my friend who is a bit of a Japanophile – a sushi, Californian roll shaped USB drive. Even though the drive has a limited 500MB memory capacity, I am sure he’ll appreciate the sentiment.
Many animals can see just as well in the dark as they can in full daylight. Animals such as dogs, owls, cats, possums, and raccoons can all see perfectly well in light that humans can’t see a thing in. Sadly, a human being simply cannot see very well when it is dark outside. This is because we do not have a tapetum lucidum in our eyes. The tapetum lucidum is what enables an animal to have great night vision. It takes a small amount of light and increases it so that animals can see things very well at night.
Unfortunately, even though we lack the ability to easily see at night, many of us need to. Fortunately, modern science will allow us to see quite well in the dark. We can purchase a good set of night vision goggles and instantly have night vision. People that need to go into unlit areas find night vision goggles to be the perfect accessory.
There are a few different types of night vision, so if your planning on buying some you may want to learn what they are. These consist of generation 1, generation 2, generation 3, and generation4. The quality of the night vision sight increases with each number. You’ll find that the visibility is much more clear with a pair of generation 4 night vision goggles than with a pair of generation 1. The cost of each type will go up with each generation. Which one you purchase will depend on both your budget and your particular need for clarity.
Depending on your circumstances you may want to get a night vision monocular or weapon site. Folks that want to keep their regular vision in one eye tend to favor a monocular. This tends to leave the wearer with his or her peripheral vision as well as depth perception. Night vision weapon sites can be used by hunters, soldiers, and law enforcement officers that want to be able to aim properly at night.
If your looking for some place to purchase night vision equipment, you may want to visit Night Vision USA. Online shops like this have a large selection of night vision gear for consumers to buy. You’ll find night vision weapon site, binoculars, and monoculars for sale. Flash lights, security cameras, and thermal cameras are available for sale also. These other pieces of equipment compliment the night vision gear quite well.
Thank you for reading this page on night vision gear. Please book mark this page and come back to it often.
The watch is a timeless piece of jewelry, while other accessories like rings bracelets, necklaces and cufflinks are just for show, the watch is both wholey practical as well as beautiful. The watch dates back hundreds of years and was originally pinned to items of clothing. Soon jewelers realized that a much easier option was to have the clock-face on a wrist strap so a quick eye movement to the left or right would give you the time immediately. Like any other piece of clothing or accessory, the watch as gone trough a number of change sin accordance with fashion.
Expensive watches have always been ‘in’, money will always be fashionable and brands like Rolex enjoy a reputation for class, sophistication and quality. Rolex are top of the pyramid but there are plenty of other premium brands like Tag and Tissot which attract classier customers. The classic analogue watch face will always be popular, because they lacked that air of style and sophistication that analouge watches had but recent variations on the format have really gained some positive vibes from fashionitsas.
New digital time display formats use a series of dots or lines to represent the time, while this is initially difficult to decipher, it is all done in the name of style and after a bit of getting used to, works a treat. Watches with metal straps have long been popular but thick leather strapped, square faced versions are coming to the fore for those who prefer a more casual look. Large faces are also in at the moment, popularized by rap videos. Whatever the trends are watch sales have been in decline recently the reason? The most likely one is that people glued to their mobiles simply use them to check the time. Watches make great 18th birthday gifts that last a lifetime. They are a bit too expensive for stocking fillers and often come with lots of flashy gadgets. Be a traditionalist and wear a watch.
there have been so many 007 gadgets over the years. there have been some fantastic ones, some really bad ones and some that just should not have been done. These are the ones voted the best by fans.
Aston Martin DB5
this one seemed to set the tone for the rest of the gadgets in the series which is always good. Without this I am not sure we would have gone on to see some of the other gadgets which is why it simply has to be on the top of the list. the car itself actually came with so many different things like bulletproof glass, bullet shield, revolving licence plates, smoke-screen, oil slick, machine guns and of course who could forget the tire shredders. Most of these you wouldn’t be able to find in a spy equipment store nowadays that’s for sure!
The Omega Watch
Brosan was the Bond that I always grew up watching which is why it is a favourite gadget of mine. The watch (although slightly different in each movie) was actually worn three times by Brosnan and most famously allowed him to escape the train in GoldenEye thanks to the laser beam cutter it had attached to it. Before you ask, no it did not have hidden spy cameras in it.
Ericsson Phone From Tomorrow Never Dies
Although this was a bit of nice advertising for Sony it did Bond a lot of favours in this move such as allowing him to shock and kill Dr.Kaufman, read fingerprints and even get into doors. The most famous use for this gadget was when Bond is in the car park steering his car with the phone, a classic Bond moment.
So although there are no mobile phone tracking things or causal gadgets you can buy now, Bond has always been about the absurd gadgets, something the last two films have really been missing out on!
According to some recent statistics, a worryingly high percentage of marriages end in divorce. This is a huge issue, and a waste when you consider all the little gifts available that could have gotten ride of those minor annoyances and helped keep a couple together. If it didn’t work out that way, at least they’d have got some half decent gifts if nothing else!
A typical annoyance for women is men ‘missing the target’ when going to the lavatory in the middle of the night. You might imagine this would be easy for a man to fix (he could just aim a little better), but when a man is only half awake, it’s not that simple. So helping to ‘mop up’ this issue is the LavNav, the ideal solution if you’re after gifts for men (although you could argue it’s for her!).
Installation is simple, you just stick the LavNav to the inside of your toilet seat using the provided ’sticky pads’ and you’re ready to go. The gadget comes with a built in motion detector, meaning it will turn on and bath the lavatory in a gentle, guiding light. This will not only help with your aim, but should stop those unpleasant ‘i’ve just been blinded’ moments when you turn on the bathroom light in the dark.
Next on the list is an inexpensive, simple way of telling your significant other how you feel every morning, combined with making them breakfast. I Love You Toast is a plastic stamp designed to emboss those three simple works into a slice of toast. Sure, it’s unlikely to single-handedly rescue your relationship, but it can’t do any damage to start the morning with breakfast in bed and an ‘I Love You’!
Last up is probably a popular choice when looking for gifts for her; the Thorntons ‘I Love Chocolate’ Hamper. If you and the wife/girfriend have had an argument and you’re looking for a way to say sorry, what better way is there to do so than with a Thorntons’ Chocolate Hamper. Not only is it tastier that a bunch of flowers, but it will last long enough to remind her of how sweet you can be, even when you’re getting her to make your dinner while you watch the football.
Cycling has become very popular in the United Kingdom, particularly with kids. For this reason, parents are becoming increasingly worried about their children’s safety while out and about.
We already make our kids wear safety helmets and they should also be wearing reflective clothing, although as it’s often seen as ‘uncool’ it can be hard to get children to wear them.
So what if we could give our kids a gift that will not only improve bike safety, but will also be seen as ‘cool’ by the youngsters? Well that’s now possible with the new Bike SpokeLit.
These great little gadgets clip quickly and easily to the spokes of a bike, lighting up as they turn. The lights can be set to an intermittent flashing light, or set to constantly turned on. Having the light on continually will give you a ring of light effect when the bike is in motion, not only helping to increase visibility of the bike, but also looking fairly cool.
The lights’ batteries don’t run out for a long time, meaning you won’t be worrying about them dying while your children are out and about. Setting up the lights is very simple, as they just clip onto the spokes, so you can let your kids put them on themselves.
The lights are completely suitable for either gender, meaning they can be bought even if you’re looking for gifts for girls. The lights are available in either green, red or blue, meaning you’re OK whichever football team the children support.
This great little gizmo is ideal for getting your kids to be safer, without them twigging that’s what their doing. Wait for their birthday to roll around, then just sneak the lights in with the rest of their toys and you can be sure the Bike SpokeLit will be attached to their bike before the end of the day.
So don’t get caught up worrying whenever your children go out on their bikes, just grab them a SpokeLit each and you can relax, knowing at least they’re safer than they were.
