The ketogenic diet is one of the nutritional plans that are known to effectively and relatively fast reduce the amount of excessive body fat, but one should also be aware of other factors that can make fat loss easier. To lose 1 kg of subcutaneous fat one should take 7000 calories less in food than it is spend on daily activity and basal metabolism. So, one should spend more time on physical activity to burn up 7000 more calories, than is entering the body by food intake.
In one week one can lose up to 1 kg of subcutaneous fat. Losing more than 1 kilogram of body weight per week is inevitably accompanied ba a large loss of muscle mass as well, and this then leads to a reduction in the metabolic rate of one’s body, and because of that, that isn’t really acceptable.
Loss of body mass that is greater than a half kilogram per week leads to a loss of 1 kilogram of muscle mass, per every lost 3 kilograms of body fat. Average daily reduction in input should thereby be around 750 kcal, which corresponds to a reduction of about 100 g of subcutaneous fat per day.
Daily intake of a too small amount of calories gradually forces your body to think this kind of situation is normal, and because of that, the reasons for the reduction of excessive body weight would actually miss out, and thereby the only result of the whole process would be the reduction of the metabolic rate, which can then even lead to a increase of body fat.
Daily intake of a reduced number of calories would probably also lead to a decrease in the overall mass of muscles, which would in fact present a loss of tissue which is very important for us, because muscles are burning up much more calories than fat tissue does (even when they rest and do nothing).
Reduction of muscles, which are actually the main calorie burners, leads to an increase of subcutaneous fat. Increasing the input of calories every fourth day of the ketogenic diet allows the preservation of muscle mass.
And at the end, regarding the number of meals – The total daily amount of food should be divided into as many meals as possible, at least six. A smaller number of meals leads the body to create reserves (in form of fat), which is, of course, not what we want.
Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is an essential and very important substance of which many people don’t get enough only by taking food into the organism, and because of that, it is recommended to take high amounts of his substance while on a ketogenic diet.
Vitamin C is found only in fruits and vegetables. However, one should keep in mind that simply cooking a meal full of vegetables will not give you a large amount of vitamin C that is just waiting to be transfered and processed by the digestive system of your body. The biggest problem of this vitamin is that it is so unstable that even small exposures to sun light destroys it. We don’t even need to mention how negatively cooking affects it.
Vitamin C is necessary for the production of collagen, but also protects vitamins A and E, which are among the vitamins soluble in fat, not water. Vitamin C also protects fatty acids from oxidation and cures the disease known as scurvy.
Reduction of the amount of calories taken daily to lower levels than one’s organism is used to, can reduce the strength of one’s immune system and can also cause severe fatigue, acne and various other problems, especially among younger people. Reduction in motivation and concentration is also very common. Vitamin C helps the immune system, keeping the body strong to fight colds, flu, or other problems such as chronic fatigue, sore throat, cancer and various other diseases.
This is basucally why it is a good idea to take vitamin C in high enough amounts during a ketogenic diet, which is primaraly based on meals which contain cheese, fish, eggs and meat, and unfortunately, as you may already know, most of the mentioned types of food come in forms that don’t contain much vitamin C.
Most of the people are not entirely happy with their figure. The most common reason for that is the excess of body fat. Almost all women, but many men as well, have been on a diet at least once in their life. Whether they chose a ketogenic diet, or any other kind of diet, the results don’t come just like that. Nowadays one can see models which are 180 centimeters tall, and have only 50 kilograms. One can also see all those men with large muscles and incredible six packs. This is unfortunately what leads many people to various complexes, which affect their life. The failure of many people who attempt a diet, is often linked with a wrong attitude towards the whole concept of maintainable weight loss.
It is not the primary goal of a diet to lower your body weight by exhausting you because of the lack of food. What one should actually do is not try to reduce the amount of food, but try to reduce the time which your body needs to digest that food. In other words, you should speed up your metabolism. The speed of one’s metabolism is not a constant. It can vary greatly, depending on the lifestyle which one has, as well as on how often and what one eats and drinks during the day.
There are several techniques that can help speed up your metabolism. One of them basically involoves drinking additional amounts of water daily. Scientific research has shown that an additional volume of 1.5 liters of water per day, can increase the digestive speed of the human metabolism for more than 30%. Your body spends energy on the processing of water, and since your digestive system will be active the whole time as it processes the water, it will also speed up the overall metabolism.
That way, by combining a healthy diet, like a ketogenic diet, with increased amounts of water, one can achieve even better results when it comes to weight loss.
