The thought of going on safari is like a dream for many of us. Having the experience of being in such close proximity to the largest and most dangerous land mammals in the world, along with some of the strangest, in their natural habitat, is something that every person should do before they die. Choosing to spend your holiday on safari is the easy part; planning and detailing every last minute of your holiday may take a little more effort. In order to make this a little easier for you, this article is aimed at informing you as to some unconventional destinations for your safari adventure.
Kenya – The Masai Mara (Masai being the name of the local inhabitants and Mara meaning spotted, referring to what it looks like from afar) is one of the most famous game reserves in the world. The Masai Mara is actually a continuation of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania which connects to the southern border of Kenya. Although it is not the largest game reserve in Africa, the Masai Mara makes up for this by providing some of the most authentic experiences possible for visitors on safari.
Uganda – If you want to go a little off the beaten track and experience something that is simply awe-inspiring, visit the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. The park is a World Heritage Site and contains one of Africas richest and most diverse ecosystems providing habitat for (amongst many other species) half of the worlds population of endangered mountain gorillas.
Zambia – One of the most famous wildlife havens in the world is the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Playing host to an almost incomprehensible number of species of wildlife, the South Luangwa National Park is actually one of 3 parks located in the Luangwa River basin in Zambia. It holds some 9,000 square kilometers of woodland savannah in which some amazing animals live such as huge lion prides and colossal buffalo herds.
South Africa – Covering over 18,000 square kilometers, the Kruger National Park in South Africa is not only the biggest game reserve in Africa, but also one of the biggest in the entire world. What makes this such a great place to go on safari is the huge number of species of mammals in the park. At 147 it is home to more species of mammals than any other reserve in Africa.

This is just another way for those of you that like adventures, to try something new. Travelling to a country to go bungee jumping or sky diving is a massive experience; however it is different all the same. Being out in the open with some of the worlds largest animals in the wild, is quite a brilliant experience.
Here are some of the greatest possible places to enjoy a Safari holiday
There is the Masai Mara! This is by far the most popular of all the Safari destinations. The Mara is best known for its group of animals known as the “Big Five”. The Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and the Lion are the Big Five that live in the Mara. There is one simple reason that these animals got this name, and it was because many years ago they were considered the most difficult and dangerous to hunt and kill! There were TV shows based around Kenya and the Masai Mara as well, one of them called Wild At Heart. Probably one of the most popular places in Africa to visit now. Kenya Safari holidays have received much more publicity recently.
The Serengeti! This is runner up, but not by much, there is debate if this should be the number one place, although it is missing some of the key factors that make the Masai Mara number 1. There us a more diverse volume of animals in the Serengeti, and many more animals in general, spread over a larger distance. The Circular Migration is something that can only be experienced in the Serengeti, one of the ten natural wonders. This is where over two million herbivores all gather into one massive herd and travel across the Serengeti! The Serengeti is home to many different natural wonders of the world, including the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive 610 metre deep Volcanic Crater with its floor covering more than 250 square kilometres! Safari holidays are becoming more and more popular, making Tanzania safari holidays a more likely attraction!
