Land Rover in Brief

Apr 2, 2011

It’s thought that the first 1948 Land Rover design by Maurice Wilks was inspired by the rugged American wartime jeep. Mr Wilks had been impressed whilst using a jeep on his farm, and his first prototype used a jeep chassis.

The aluminium body came about as a result of limited materials supply after the war. In 1948 steel was hard to come by, but volume aircraft production during the war meant there was a great deal of aluminium lying around.

The characteristic Land Rover colours were also a result of shortages – the only paint there was a lot of was camouflage.

The Series 1 Land Rover was tough and simple to fix. The armed forces began their long relationship with the Landy starting with the Series 1. Farmers, foresters, landowners – they all loved the Series 1, some early Land Rover variants featured a handy power take-off for running things like pumps.

The Series II and III followed, showing ‘developments’ rather than ‘refinements’. Land Rover knew that this was the formula that sold their vehicles around the world.

But never the less, a more sophisticated 4X4 niche was spotted. That’s why in 1970 the up-market Range Rover eased into the county set.

But the basic utility Landy formula remained much the same until 1983, when the Land Rover 90 and long wheelbase 110 launched (renamed ‘Defender’ in 1990). Chassis-wise, Land Rovers still featured the robust and highly mendable box section chassis.

4×4s hade become more mainstream by 1989, when the Discovery was launched to meet this demand. Land Rover also introduced a modern turbodiesel engine in 1990.

Land Rover broadened its appeal even further with the 1997 compact Freelander 4X4. BMW took control of Land Rover in the 90s, then sold the company to Ford in 2000. Eight years later, current owners Tata Motors of India took control.

Current vehicle options include the Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Freelander 2 for sale, Land Rover Discovery 4, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

And whilst the days of rugged simplicity may be long gone, Land Rover remains a supremely able off road vehicle with a passionately devoted fan base.

If you desire to have a success in the marathon training program it will take you at least 4 months if you are the newcomer in this sport and if you are the elite runner it can take 6 or 7 months of hard marathon training for receiving of your record attempts. For me, personally, one of the most important aspects of the marathon running is the Taper, the process of having a rest and locking in your fitness level.

If you are the newcomer in the marathon training, you usually make two plain mistakes:

You usually do not desire to train as it is required, you exercise not so intensive to reach the effects.
The second error is that you do not have the rest enough.

What does the marathon mean? The marathon is the program that implies running too far, perhaps on the expanse of 20 miles till the period the body is run out of fuel. In order to deal with the extensive expanse you should exercise your body to cope with the stresses which occur when the expanse is too far. It implies that if you train your body running too long daily, it will help you run 20 miles or more without stopping and much stress. While training to the marathon, the elite runners usually train to run something about 23-24 miles. It is suggested for the first time runners to run 20 miles 3-4 times while exercising so to be assured that you feel good and you are ready to take part in the competitions. If you want to get ready to the marathon training and you started with 7-8 miles of training it will take much time and tries to build it to 20 miles. It will take something 4 months for increasing. There are many people who exercise 3 months, but they cannot be ready to the long runs. It is the exact instruction as for the marathon – the harder you exercise the faster you will be ready to the marathon. When I was 28, my best result was 4 hours and 52 minutes. And the longest run I have done was 13 miles. After some period of training the results became better and my record was 2 hours 41 minutes. This is the proof that training gives the results. If you train 4 months, it will lead you to the peak of fitness and will provide you the results of the constant training session. You should exercise as frequent as you can so to get the great effects. The frequency is the main factor of the successful marathon training. But you also should have the great rest, as many studies state that the complete rest is a part of good training to the marathon. If you cannot cope with the miles you settled as your goals, to lower the amount of them is the best alternative for you. All marathon runners should care about the quantity of calories they consume. As you spend the energy, you will surely consume more meal and you will obviously increase in weight. So, keep in mind this point and mind it.
