The Beatles Stereo Box Set
Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon’s first solo album after leaving The Beatles, is also his best in my opinion. It features Lennon’s most intense songs. Not to say that he didn’t record more good songs after his debut, but I do believe that the rest of his recording career is a bit of a let down in comparison to this truly excellent debut.
The album opens up with “Mother.” You can really hear Lennon working through the issues of his childhood in this song. For anyone who does not know his life story that specifically means talking about his parents leaving him to make it through his childhood with his aunt. And when he was a teenager his mother was killed in an auto accident by a drunk off duty cop. This is what “My Mummy’s Dead” is referencing.
The second track, “Hold On,” is a simple song that could be seen as a “throwaway” especially with the silly “cookie!” heard at around 1 minute into it (which I love.) But I personally really love the song.
Plastic Ono Band includes some of his most heavy recordings including “I Found Out” which has an awesomely raunchy guitar tone and some really great lyrics and “Well Well Well” which showcases the “primal scream” method he had been using in his therapy at the time.
The instrumental part of “Look at Me” sounds a lot like The White Album’s “Julia” but that has never kept me from enjoying it just the same. It is such a pretty song that I can’t resist it. What really makes the album work so wonderfully is the contrast between the beautiful songs like “Look at Me,” “Love,” and “Hold On” and the heavy tracks such as “Working Class Hero,” “I Found Out,” and “Well Well Well.” And then there’s “God” which I don’t think much of musically but I do think it has some of his most insightful lyrics.
Plastic Ono Band is one of 8 John Lennon post Beatles solo albums included in the Lennon Signature Box. This solo box set is following in the path made by the very successful Remastered Beatles CD Stereo Box Set and Beatles in Mono Box Set released in 2009.

The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set
The Beatles are not a “best of” kind of band. You can’t buy just Beatles 1 and be done with it. I believe most of their best tunes were not their number one hits but were their more adventurous recordings like “I Am The Walrus.”
To really understand The Beatles legendary music you must listen to their LPs completely rather than simply listening to a song here and a song there. continue reading »
The Beatles in Stereo Box Set
For just about forever people have been not so patiently waiting for The Beatles timeless music to be available as downloadable mp3s so that their recordings could be easily put onto an mp3 player. As of early 2010, the Fab Four are still not available for download at AmazonMP3 or the iTunes Store but there is something called The Beatles USB which includes all of the 2009 Beatles stereo remasters in the mp3 format.
This USB flash drive includes everything that is in The Beatles in Stereo except in a much easy to carry format! continue reading »
Some people think that vinyl is the most ultimate way to listen to an album. There’s some kind of magic to watching the black circle rotate and knowing that the wonderful sound you are listening to is coming from a needle instead of a bunch of ones and zeroes like with CDs.
It’s this “magic feeling” (to quote The Beatles) that has Beatles fiends extremely excited about the rumors of The Beatles remasters (which have sold extremely well on CD) making their way onto vinyl in in March of 2010. continue reading »
Quite a few music lovers strongly believe that vinyl records are the most ultimate way to enjoy an album. They believe that there is just a certain magic to seeing the “black circle” (to quote Pearl Jam) spin and knowing that the sound you are hearing is coming from a needle in the record’s groove.
It’s this “magic feeling” (to quote “You Never Give Me Your Money” that has people extremely excited about the possibility of The Beatles remasters (which have sold extremely well on CD) making their way to vinyl records in in March of 2010. continue reading »
The Beatles in Stereo Box Set
The Beatles second UK LP (With The Beatles) is definitely not not the best Beatles studio album, in fact it is probably their worst non Yellow Submarine album. But that is not to say I don’t enjoy hearing this early classic in it’s new glorious remastered form nor is it to say that it does not have any fine tunes on it because that is definitely not the case.
But I do think that when looking at only the eight original songs on the album, it is likely the worst selection of originals the lads from liverpool ever released on an album (the underrated Beatles For Sale has a much better selection of eight originals in my opinion) on the other hand, the covers on this album are good (better than the covers on Beatles For Sale, which was their fourth album.)
My most favorite Beatles originals to listen to on the With The Beatles Remastered CDs are the first three songs. continue reading »
Geoff Emerick’s Here, There, and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of The Beatles is ikely my very favorite Beatles connected book. Why? Because it offers such a fascinating and lifelike perspective on recording The Beatles classic albums such as 1967’s Sgt. continue reading »
Jamorama internet guitar lessons are a very popular way to become a great guitarist because of a a lot of different reasons, some of which I cover here.
The best reason for ordering Jamorama is probably how inexpensive it is to download Jamorama when compared with expensive private guitar lessons. A year’s worth of guitar lessons from a local guitar teacher can run into thousands of dollars while these online guitar lessons are available for a one time payment of $40. continue reading »
The Beatles in Stereo Remastered Box Set
The Beatles classic albums were first remastered digitally for CD back in the late 80s at that time mastering for CD was still a new art and since the 80s much has been figured out about how to master more effectively but most important is all of the many technological advances during that time.
All of the forward movements in digital mastering and all of the know how learned of how to most effectively remaster original analog tapes digitally have been put to very good use with the Beatles remasters of 2009. On September 9 The Beatles released both The Beatles in Stereo and The Beatles in Mono. continue reading »
